Biography
Born in Sierra Leone, Amanda Holiday moved to the UK at the age of 5. She completed a degree in Fine Art at Wimbledon and went on to exhibit in landmark black art shows across the UK before moving into film. In 1989 she began her seminal work ‘The Hum of History’ an ongoing, large-scale series of narrative drawings. She directed a number of shorts including ‘The Image Employed’ which showcases the work of five black British artists.
The BFI short ‘Miss Queencake’ – stars a young Sophie Okonedo and ‘Manao Tupapau’ made for BBC /Arts Council re-imagines Gauguin’s famous painting. Holiday’s feature drama scripts have been supported by British Screen and Media II and placed in the finals of international screenwriting contests.
Between 2001 and 2010, Holiday was resident in Cape Town where she wrote and directed educational television programmes Since returning to live in the UK, she has exhibited at INIVA, cueB gallery (solo), ArtLounge , Bargehouse, Southbank, Fairfields Arts Centre, Lewisham Library and Harts Lane Studios. She is currently preparing to shoot two South African feature films.
